Why Some Herbal Homeopathic Remedies May Not Work for You
Homeopathy is a popular natural healing therapy that uses neither drugs nor surgery to heal.
Homeopathy is essentially based on the belief that everyone is unique and should be treated as a whole individual. When you visit a trained homeopathic doctor, he or she will take a whole person approach to healing. This runs contrary to what most of us recognize as conventional healing therapies. In most cases, a doctor will simply take note of our symptoms, make a diagnosis, and prescribe us a treatment that is meant to counter the symptoms we are suffering from. A homeopathic doctor will take into account the whole person—their personality, their temperament, physical and emotional condition, lifestyle, career, and all other aspects that may seem pertinent.
Essentially, homeopathy is used on both acute and chronic conditions and it aims to both prevent and treat illnesses. Homeopathy comes from the Greek word “homio” and “pathos.” The first refers to like and the second to suffering. Simply translated, the term homeopathy means something like: to treat like with like. In more conventional medicine, symptoms are assuaged with an antidote.
However, homeopathy may seem counterintuitive at first because it seeks to treat the symptoms of illness with something that is known to cause that very illness. Why? This stems from a traditional healing philosophy that the body cannot be suffer from two forms of the same condition at one time. Some people believe that nature simply does not allow the body to suffer from two similar conditions at the same time. In order to end the course of an illness, then, homeopathy strives to introduce a similar artificial condition that is intended to push out the true illness. This is somewhat like the old adage of “fighting fire with fire.”
In order for homeopathic remedies to be efficient and effective, only minute doses are prescribed to the patient. One of the basic tenets of homeopathic healing is that extreme dilution enhances the curative properties of the homeopathic substance. This helps to eliminate any possible side effects. According to homeopathic medicine, you only need a minute dose of the active ingredient in order to stimulate better health and healing. It can be hard for many people to understand how homeopathic remedies work, especially if substances are being diluted. However, most homeopathic doctors believe that homeopathic remedies carry with them a certain vibrational power or energy that helps to stimulate the healing process. This energy carries a healing power that helps to rebalance the mind, body and spirit.
Keeping in mind the basic tenets of homeopathy, it becomes clear why not everyone may benefit from this healing therapy. First, some herbal homeopathic remedies may not work for you because they are too strong or too diluted. Part of the trick of homeopathy is finding the right strength. This can take many weeks or months of experimenting before finding the right dosage.
Another reason why some herbal homeopathic remedies may not work for you is that they have been mis-selected or simply not effective in targeting your specific symptoms. Homeopathic remedies have to be carefully chosen in order to have the maximum efficacy. It can be difficult to self-prescribe homeopathic remedies unless you do plenty of research and understand exactly how the substance you are ingesting has been traditionally used throughout the years. In order to get the most out of homeopathic remedies, make sure you are working with an experienced homeopath that is dedicated to providing a whole person approach to your therapy.
An herbal homeopathic remedy may not work if not used in conjunction with dietary changes and other lifestyle adjustments.
